  • Finally, some of that white stuff falling from the sky and coating the ground. We're all hoping for a snow day.

  • It's A Girl Named Anna Pearl!!

  • Greetings, oh ye faithful readers.
Here we are. Two weeks into school. The first semester ended today, and a new semester begins on monday.
Wednesday, we had some excitement. While the guys were off at small
groups, Sarah and Matt rushed to the hospital, but it was false labor.
Currently, as in, right now, Matt and Sarah and her mom are at the hospital, for a night or two.
Had some home basketball games today after school. The visiting team,
Wurzburg, had no JV team, so the JV girls played an assorted team of
female staff and students. They kept their winning streak. The JV guys
played a team of students, mainly composed of those that had been cut,
with a few others thrown in, like John Olson and Sang Jin Yoon. It was
an amazing game, but the JV guys won out.
Varsity girls played exceptionally well, and lost by three points after a long game.
Varsity guys played amazingly, facing a team composed of fast guys who
threw at odd angles. It came down to the last thirty seconds, but, to
our great sadness, they were unable to overcome the visiting team.
Still no snow. Yesterday, there was a high winds alert, and the wind
decided to pick up right after the guys got back on the late bus,
tearing down the valley. Some thought that the bus would be unable to
make it if the wind continued through the morning, but, alas, their
wishes were not granted. There is a movie night coming up next week, on
Friday, with an assortment of videos playing in various locations at
school. That should be fun for the guys.
    See you later people!

  • Have a Merry Merry Christmas!!

Well, I guess I dropped the ball (the basketball that is) on reporting the Saturday game - bottom line the girls won and the boys lost.

But the real news is, of course, that all our Sonne boys are home or on their way (Sang Jin has the longest trip so I don't know if he is still travelling). They left one, two or 4 at a time - by car, by plane, by train, by pack mule. The dorm has that oddly quiet feel - especially the 'other side'. Soon Matt K and Jeff will move down the hill for the holidays and it will be even quieter.

Dear Sonne boys - we hope your travels were safe and smooth - we prayed for you and trust that now you are together with family and friends and resting. This fall semester was a WHIRLWIND! It went faster than I could believe. We wish you all a very peaceful and joyous Christmas. We will see you in January. We love you!!!

  • FALCONS BASKETBALL BEGINS!!

The energy was high tonight at BFA! We screamed and yelled and cheered our Falcons as they battled the never-before-seen Baumholder Bucaneers. We of course were super proud of our own Sonne Falcons - Megan, Jonny, Sean, Nicky, David, Andy, and Nate!! They all played hard and did SOOOO well. Krista and Sarah are officially sports moms with very little voice left for tomorrow's games.

Here are the scores sports fans....

    JV girls won 12-10

    JV boys lost 35-15

    Varsity girls triumphed 45-20

Varsity-boys outplayed the Bucs but lost a really close squeaker 57-52

Tomorrow promises to be just as thrilling so stay tuned for the details.

In other news... it has been a pretty blusterly day up here on the hill - if it were any colder we would probably have had a blizzard. The BFA Christmas Concert is on Sunday afternoon and that evening we will have our dorm Christmas extravaganza - can I just say that Jeff has created these absolutely scrumptious peanutbutter-chocolate balls for the occaision. A gift exchange and food are the main events. Can you believe Christmas Break is just around the bend?!?!?!

  • Greetings All.
The dorm has been decorated in the Christmas Spirit. A tree was fetched last week, and it was quickly decorated. The windows have shiny chandeliers and the roof of the dining room is covered in lights. Christmas Spirit abounds in the dorm.

  • Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - Basketball & A Crimminal is Caught

The musical Seven Brides.... was last weekends big event. Morgan, Tim, Daweed and Kristoff sang and danced their way to fame - if not fortune. They all did such a fantastic job! There was a 'pit orchestra' and lovely scene decoration - the costumes were great - colour coordinated boys and girls for dances - amazing! A special addition was the surprise visit from Tim's Dad - he arrived on the Wednesday during dinner - I think Tim nearly passed out! What a terrific surprise! He was able to catch both the Friday and Saturday night show.

Meanwhile basketball tryouts and selections were made. Congratulations go to our FIVE Sonne VARSITY players- Nicky, Sean, David, Andy and Nate and to our freshman JV player Jonathan. Now comes the hard part - PRACTICES!!!

We did finally catch one of the sneaky creatures in our pantry - he seems so small and innocent - but his little bulging belly gives him away.

Saturday night is the Christmas Banquet - more photos to come!!

  • Okay, so heres some pics of the stuff that was described in the previous entry. Mainly the Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Sonne Thanksgiving and Time to Catch Up

It has been far too long since we have updated - hopefully this will change as we plan to update more consistently each week.

Last night was Sonne's Thanksgiving Feast. WOW! The tables were all set in a U shape and we had our wonderful volunteers up to join us. The food was impressive and everyone sat enjoying the meal for a nice long time. We had turkey and ham, potatoes, green bean cassarole, corn, dressing AND stuffing (Matt D. made the 'in the bird stuffing - quite a hit), a beautiful layered salad, cranberries and fruit salad. We decided to clean up supper first before attempting dessert - we all needed a feasting rest! For dessert Gail and Cathy made a plethera (sp?) of pies and Lori added a peanut butter pie. Michelle brought a lovely cake and by 8 pm everyone was well fed. Everyone went around and shared one thing they are thankful for which was really encouraging. Then we watched a Thanksgiving football game with the big projector. Everyone had helped with clean up and it went smoothly - the night was just great. With Thanksgiving over, Krista and Sarah are itching to pull out the Christmas decorations - yes oh yes Sonne will look its Christmas loveliest again!

Today is a PD Day for teachers so everyone is home - well not everyone - there is play practice, skating, special sports parties, small group suppers, and several SOnne Knights have gone home for the long weekend. We are looking out the window at a perfect fall day - sunny and crisp -and those who aren't in the above mentioned groups are ready for a relaxing day home.

We should mention that the boys Varsity Volleyball team won the whole championship in Italy - our very own Sean was part of that team. Ben and Josh are finished with Cross Country for the year - but that didn't stop them from hiking up to Hoch Blauen and running back down! The play/musical is just around the corner and Tim, Kristoff, Daweed and Morgan are busy with their dance moves and songs.

On a completely different note - we have had some unwelcome visitors in our pantry - we set traps but the elusive creatures licked them clean without getting caught. The traps we have now are pretty intimidating and we are confident the little crimminals will be caught - but who wants to be the one to come down on some dark chilly morning and find... a non empty trap!??!! But we must protect our chocolate chips!

  • Greetings one and all.

So, you ask, what has been going on around here? Lots, thats what we would say.

Seniors came back from Rome, oh, a week ago. They had a good time
there. They rested over the weekend, then dived back into school.

Thursday night, some of our guys, with permission, of course, went and
pranked Wittlingen by taking their student fridge and all contained
within and hiding it in one of their garages, while leaving behind a
note saying that they had taken it with them to the dorm. Also, they
moved the tables to resemble the letter S, for effect. So the next
morning, the girls had to have breakfast with only 2 liters of milk
    left behind.

On Friday, there was class parties. The freshmen went to the Benjamin's
house and did fun and games, and such stuff. Sophmores played dodgeball
and other phyisical sports in the gym, and had snacks to follow.
Juniors dressed up nice and had speed dating, with a sheet of
questions, in the auditorium. Seniors played a game on all four stories
of the main building, in the dark, called Assassin, or some other name
like that. Everybody enjoyed their parties and thought they were
    interesting.

Saturday, vball guys were away at Frankfurt. Also, XC went to Ktown, to
a big meet. Both did well and returned later that day. This weekend
seemed to be the prime weekend for parents to come, as many have
visited, like the Holland's mother, BenB's mom, the Olson family, Lukas
and the Posts went home, and lots of other people coming and going.

Sunday, almost normal. String Thing, with Daweed and Shin, went and
played at the Schindler's church up in Kaiserslautern and returned
later that afternoon. Church, came back to the dorm, lunch. But the
night was different. At 5, all the students went to BFA, where they got
in other dorm's vans and went to other dorms. ResLife came up with a
fun idea for the evening, allowing other people to see each others
dorms. Each dorm had a slightly formal dinner, followed by dancing,
such of the sort of swing and ballroom. The Web, now spacious with teh
wieght machine and benches gone, was decked out in Christmas lights,
which warmed it up, and the couches were arrayed around it, giving an
open space in the middle for dancing. Everybody had a great time and a
memorable evening. THen many people came back and did homework. The
weather was beautiful, sunny, scattered clouds, not too chilly or warm.
But today, monday, its rainy, as usual. Oh well. Herbste Messe is
coming up, and guys are thinking about Christmas Banquet alreayd,
scheming on how they are gonna ask, if they haven't already. So, yeah,
thats the situation right now. We'll make another update as soon as
something happens and we have time to write about it.
