  • SOCCER RESULTS: BFA 1 - BITBURG 0

Caleb brings the ball in on attackHÜTSCHENHAUSEN - Win number nine did not come so easy this morning. The weather threatened rain but the Bitburg Barons threatened even more. "We missed some early scoring chances in the game," said Coach Dueck. "It added pressure in the end." IanJ provided all the scoring as the Falcons moved to 9-0-1.  Bitburg showed quite a bit of speed on the small field and had one breakaway scoring attempt smothered by our goalie. With the win, the Falcons will advance to the semifinals but must still win tonight to secure the number one seed. The Lady Falcons dropped their third straight contest 2-1, on another last minute goal. Four yellow cards were issued in the rainy contest, three on the Lady Falcons and one on the Mannheim.

  • SOCCER RESULTS: BFA 4 - VILSECK 0

Andy and Jori race back on defenseNANZDIETSCHWEILER - The Falcons scored their second shutout of the day, 4-0, as the coolness of the day evaporated in the late afternoon heat. BFA had just beated Vilseck 6-0 last Saturday, so one might think they should have a fairly easy task against the other Falcons. Don't be deceived by the score. It wasn't that easy as our opponents learned a thing or two having playing us recently. "Vilseck adjusted to our style of play and made compensation," noted Coach Greathouse. "In the second half, were able to make adjustments and find the net." DavidO scored on a nifty goal as he dribbled the ball in from the left side of the field and smashed the ball just inside the box. "I played it by instinct," he said. BillyR continued his birthday celebration by scoring another pair of goals (four on the day) and TobyW blasted one from about 20 meters out as BFA improved its record to 8-0-1. Hopefully, they'll rest well tonight, especially since DavidA injured his collar bone and CalebT was knocked woozy. The Lady Falcons gave up tie-breaking goal with about 45 seconds to go to lose to Naples, 2-1. They're now in a must-win situation for pool play tomorrow.

  • SOCCER RESULTS: BFA 3 - AVIANO 0

NANZDIETSCHWEILER - On an overcast morning and an artificial surface, BFA began their title defense against the team from Italy. The unusual field had a rubbery feel as players slipped and slid until they adjusted to its texture. BillyR celebrated his own birthday by scoring a couple of goals and SergeU, filling in for his brother Eddie, scored to lead BFA (7-0-1) to a 3-0 victory. Coach Greathouse said, "We're excited about the win. Aviano gave us a great game. Even though they weren't deep positionally, they were very well coached." The Falcons led 1-0 at the half. The Lady Falcons weren't so fortunate in their opener but they fought very hard in their 3-0 loss to top-seeded Patch.

  • FALCONS GUYS BLANK VILSECK 6-0, 5-0

KANDERN - The weather was almost perfect for today's final home game between BFA and the visiting Vilseck Falcons. The varsity and junior varsity both threw shutouts against overmatched Vilseck. Six different players scored for the varsity including Sonne's AndyO who picked up his first goal of the season as he lofted the ball from about 25 meters out. "It was an amazing goal," kidded Andy as his brother David and others accused him of accidentally scoring on an errant pass. The Falcons won the Division II regular season crown with a 6-0-1 record. Sang Jin closed out his JV season with a left-footed shot after dribbling the ball in from the right side of the box. It was almost a breakaway goal as Sang Jin came in quickly from the right side. After the goal, he was moved back to defense to insure the shutout. "I'm so happy," he said. "It made my day." The goal was like a bookend to his season as he scored in the first game and the final game. The boys JV finished the season undefeated, 5-0-0, allowing only two goals. The Lady Falcons tied their game, 2-2, to finish their season with a 1-5-1 record; JV girls wound up with a 4-0-1 record after tying their final game 2-2.

jsb Sveva-72Sonne seniors preparing for the banquet picMULLHEIM - The theme of this year's Junior-Senior Banquet was A Night in Venice. Before leaving the dorm, we had our tradition picture on the front steps of Sonne. After arriving, students took a myriad of photos outside of the Buergerhaus. The juniors, who did fundraising this year to cover the seniors' expenses, escorted their guests to their designated tables. The juniors also provided most of the entertainment that evening with a series of tributes from each dorm to their departing seniors. Sonne's juniors performed a skit involving four juniors dining at a table with four other juniors hidden behind them making all of the hand motions. They recalled their fondest memories of our seniors as their partner provided some very funny gestures. The class sponsors, which include Alan & Kathy, prepared a slideshow. Sonne volunteers, GailP and SusanR sang accompaniment.

  • TIM WINS PRESIDENCY

Sonne's very own, TimW, won the election for next year's Student Body President of BFA. Congratulations Tim! He had tough competition going against another Sonnenite, RobertH, and HBR's JoshM. Tim's win makes it four years in a row that Sonne has won the office. You can add his name to: JariddL, JeffL, and this year's president, OwenP. We're confident that Tim will do a great job next year serving the student body. Since Tim hails from Spain, we suppose you can refer to him as El Presidente!

  • RAINY TUESDAY

Hmmm...it seems that April's showers have trickled into May. At least it's helping to "green-up" the hillside and wash out the pollen.

Tonight, we had another round of "no-name laundry." We had several clothes hampers filled with unmarked clothes; unclaimed clothing is up for grabs. Perhaps our guests, Mark & LoriW, and Laird & Leigh AnnL, spotted something worthwhile...

Yesterday, Steve & Julie Olsen prepared a savory breakfast for the Sonne staff. No kidding. Filet mignon, croissants, quiche, fruit salad, juice and hot java (for Alan!). We were very honored and thankful for their labor of love.
